April 2007 - HAZRED project enters final phase

We are now in the final year of the HAZRED project, having recruited a team of specialist advisors and dozens of businesses to take part.

Firms signed up to the project have now been allocated an advisor whose expertise best matches their business requirements and are receiving the first of a series of on-site visits.

A bespoke action plan will be developed to provide free, expert advice on the effective reduction, management and evaluation of hazardous waste. A final recruitment drive is also being undertaken to secure additional participants.

HAZRED project manager, Anna Pizzi, said: "We are pleased to be embarking on the final phase with an excellent team of advisors on board and would urge any businesses interested in finding out more to get in touch. All advice is free and confidential and we can help businesses secure valuable cost savings by dealing proactively with hazardous waste."

Each HAZRED advisor will help participating businesses apply the hazardous waste reduction plan to their operation during a series of on-site visits. They will also assist with monitoring and evaluating hazardous waste outputs and cost savings achieved.

December 2006 - Hazardous Waste Reduction Plans

Final versions of the hazardous waste reduction plans are now available for all six sectors. They are available to download from the sector pages in the taking part section.

March 2006 - Sector Workshops

Between January and March 2006, the HAZRED team held workshops for the metals, motor vehicles, chemicals, photographic processing and construction sectors.

The workshops provided interested parties with an opportunity to find about more about HAZRED and to provide input to the draft hazardous waste reduction plan for their sector.

Reports on the workshops which have taken place are available on the sector pages in the taking part section.

These events introduced the project to businesses in Ireland and delegates were invited to consult on the draft hazardous waste reduction plans for the six sectors.

Businesses were able to find out exactly what's involved in participating and how they can benefit from taking part in HAZRED.

June 2005 - HAZRED Project Officially Launched

An event to officially launch the HAZRED project was held in London at the Lewis Media Centre on 30th June 2005.

This was well attended by key stakeholders including project partners, business organisations, consultants and academics, and trade associations.

Chris Bale, Director of Performance and Innovation at the Environment Agency, opened proceedings with a summary of changes to hazardous waste legislation including research into business awareness of these changes. This was followed by a detailed overview of the HAZRED project from Martin Brocklehurst, Head of Waste Strategy at the Environment Agency and a presentation on working in partnership to reduce hazardous waste from project partner SafetyKleen.

The presentations made way for a lively Q&A session and networking amongst those present.
