In consultation with key business and sector organisations, the three-year HAZRED project set out to achieve the following aims:

·         To identify the six industry sectors responsible for generating the most significant amounts of hazardous waste

·         To develop a series of user-friendly sector-specific hazardous waste reduction plans

·         To engage and recruit up to 120 SMEs from the six ‘priority’ sectors by working closely with sector influencers and running dedicated HAZRED sector workshops

·         To recruit, train and equip a team of specialist environmental advisors to demonstrate how one-to-one contact with the recruited SMEs could help build capacity in waste management skills

·         To quantify the environmental and financial benefits of implementing the hazardous waste reduction measures set out in the individual sector plans, on a case-by-case basis with project participants

·         To establish an online catalogue of best practice for the chosen sectors

·         To ensure key project outputs and learnings are widely disseminated throughout the life of the project
